Porvair is a public limited company which manufactures synthetic materials. Their synthetic materials have proved popular amongst shoe manufacturers, who use the materials for the upper (the material which surrounds, supports and holds the foot onto the sole). Porvair is a cost effective alternative to leather, and can appear to the eye, to be leather. Porvair is sometimes referred to as a "leather effect" material.
